Power On Group

Power On Solutions was formed in 1996, and is currently run & managed by it's 3 Directors & business partners; John Peart, David Hefford and Sonia Lucic.

At that time in the mid 1990's, the owners of what was initially "The Adelaide Apple Bureau", Adelaide's first and foremost PostScript output service bureau (subsequently referred to as simply "The Bureau"), recognised that they were selling enough Macintosh computers, peripherals and software, to justify setting up a separate entity to not only look after that side of the business, but also to provide repairs & service for what was a pretty demanding service industry - made up of a large percentage of the major advertising, graphic arts, media and print companies in South Australia.

Up until this time - since 1990 - The Bureau had been what Apple referred to as an "Associate Reseller" - buying their Macs from a larger, major Apple dealer & reseller. However, with the advent of Power On Solutions also came an elevation, not only as a full "Apple Authorised Reseller" in their own right, but also the designation of an Apple "Master of Media - Publishing".

For the next 3 years, under The Bureau's ownership and in a shopfront on Gilles Street opposite The Bureau building (nowadays "Digital Print Australia"), the business had expanded to encompass 2 Sales personnel and a Service Technician.

In late 1998, the management and shareholders of The Bureau were looking at some changes including retirement for one of the Directors and the appointment of a full-time General Manager to look after the day-to-day running of the business.

Power On Solutions was then pared off from the core business and offered for sale to John, who had been with The Bureau since 1990, selling & servicing Macs & peripherals and virtually running the Power On Solutions component.

John then invited David, a friend and client, who was very Mac savvy and had built a large database running on Macs for a major Adelaide Courier company, to become his business partner.

John & David took over the company at the beginning of 1999, fittingly, on John's 10 year anniversary of being involved with Apple Macintosh computers and peripherals.

Power On then grew slowly but surely over the next four-and-a-half years, before moving to Gouger Street in a merger with what was then AppleCentre Adelaide. During this time, reference to the Power On Solutions name ceased in favour of the more widely recognised AppleCentre brand.

In March 2006, AppleCentre Norwood was launched, signalling the financial involvement of Sonia, who has run the Norwood store since it's inception. Not long after, David successfully negotiated the purchase of Computer Network Cabling Pty Ltd, adding capability to provide structured cabling solutions, including Cat. 5e, Cat 6 and Fibre networks to the company's broad spread of Apple-focussed, yet cross-platform (Mac & Windows PC) solutions.

In late 2007, under a cloud owing to difficult trading conditions in what had become the dead western end of Gouger Street, along with the nationwide demise of what Apple used to refer to as a "Destination Store" and the withdrawal of the right to refer to any stores as AppleCentres, a decision was made to leave Gouger Street, relocate the Service Department to Thebarton and continue to trade in Norwood - with the new "Mac Centre Norwood" designation.

2 years later, with the Norwood retail store trading under "Apple Premium Reseller" status, an opportunity arose for the Directors to acquire & purchase a cottage at Hindmarsh and move the Service Centre.

At this time the decision was taken to reinstate the original Power On Solutions name, with 4 divisions based around their respective areas of expertise - Retail (Mac Centre Norwood), Service (Mac Centre Norwood Service), Professional Services (Gov. & SME support) and Infrastructure (Computer Network Cabling).

Now in it's 15th year, Power On Solutions continue to offer their many and varied clients a truly across-the-board solution to their computing, service and support requirements.
